So why go to therapy?
There is no one single and supreme answer for why people choose to go to therapy/counseling.
My homepage alludes to but one reason why therapy works: to help make ourselves whole.
Below are reasons I’ve heard other people use…
"I feel alone". “It is easier to talk to a stranger about my problems because there is less judgment. “COVID has stressed me out”. “I feel like my life is out of control”.

"I want to stop crying". “I feel like I’m out of control”. “I feel bored”. “I want to feel better about myself”.

“I need to understand myself better”. “I want to work on my marriage". "I want to work on my relationship". "I want to get out of this rut I am in". “I need a place to vent”.

The therapeutic alliance is not quite like any other relationship we can have.
Therapists are people that give us the space to explore and confront parts of ourselves that other people either are not capable of doing, or are too scared of. Simply because it is hard being ourselves and even harder to witness another person struggling at it as well.
People come to counseling to get learn to talk about themselves and learn to become vulnerable and so that they can learn ways to live their lives to the fullest. The goal is to be able to talk about one’s thoughts and feelings in a way that increases connection with others and the world.
